mental health resources

Since deciding that I'm going to share my debris with the general public I feel that I should also try to provide some resources to at least give my readers a starting point when doing their own research.

I also want to give a little disclaimer

  • I am not a doctor, a nurse, or any sort of health care professional.
  • The majority of my nearly 30 college credits are from music and stagecraft classes which means that I'm perfectly qualified to sing you a song, apply stage makeup or do light construction.
  • If I happen to say something that is absolutely contrary to what your doctor has said, please do not take my word over that of your doctor. You can feel free to discuss what I've said with your doc or seek out a second opinion but do not mistake anything that I say here for true medical advice from a professional.

Now on with the resources…

Med references

  • Crazy Meds! -  Here you can find all the info your doctor doesn't tell you. This site covers anticonvulsants/mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, antidepressant, stimulants, benzodiazepines and a few other miscellaneous drugs that are used. All of the information here is compiled by "mentally interesting" people and they add their own experiences to the information that they've gathered.
  • Electronic Medicines Compendium - This UK based site can pull up just about any med with either the brand or generic name. Some of the info is a bit technical but it is always up-to-date.
  • Rx List - Here you can get the patient information sheet.
  • PubMed - If you want research, studies and drug trials you'll find them here. You can also get the same info from HubMed.
  • PDR Health - Based on the PDR (physican's desk reference) this gives the same overall information in normal human english.

Diagnosis refrences

  • Neurotransmitter.net -  Huge amounts of research on just about every mental illness. It is fairly scientific so be prepared.
  • Psycheducation.org - This site mainly focuses on bipolar II but also has links to all sorts of good info. Although I wish it were updated more often, the information here is still valid and presents some new ideas.

I have more to add but am getting sleepy so I will try to remember to work on this later…
